All potential members who wish to audition for the Cyclone Marching Band must fill out the Future Member Application! The Winds Section of the ISUCF’V’MB is made up of over 200 woodwind and brass players from across the nation and even the world. Auditions for Brass & Woodwind players will happen the week before classes (you can see a full Band Camp schedule over on our Events page!) Here are the important dates for Brass & Woodwind players:
- July 11, 2026: Preliminary Fundamentals Camp (optional)
- July 27, 2026: Preliminary Fundamentals Camp (optional)
- August 1?, 2026: New Member Move-In for Auditions
- August 18, 2026: Audition Camp
- August 19, 2026: Audition Day
Over the summer leading up to auditions, we will host two Preliminary Fundamentals Camps, which will provide an in-person opportunity for students to learn our marching techniques and get direct feedback on their auditions. These camps will take place from 1-5 PM and those attending should check-in in the lobby at Simon Estes Music Hall in Ames, IA. We ask that you fill out our Preliminary Camp Interest Form so that we know you are planning on attending these events.
Preliminary Camp Interest Form - 2026
Below you will find the audition materials you need to prepare for the process to join. The audition is split up into two sections each worth 50 of 100 points: Music and Marching.
Music Auditions
For the playing portion of the audition, you will be asked to play the following etude not memorized and the fight song memorized as an audition for one of our adjudicators.
| Audition Etudes (Not Memorized) | Fight Song (Memorized) |

Marching Auditions
The marching portion of the audition will be a series of short marching sequences that will be taught to you during our New Member portion of band camp. These sequences will be comprised of some of the basic techniques that you will use as a member of the Cyclone Marching Band. We do not post any tutorial videos of our marching auditions, mostly because we do not want to you watch a video and practice the wrong technique all summer. Students who are interested in learning about our marching style should plan on attending one of our free Preliminary Fundamentals Camps over the summer.
