If you are interested in auditioning for the Cyclone Marching Band in the Fall of 2024, please fill out the Future Member Application as soon as possible! This will help get you connected to additional information about band camp and the audition process. If there is only one thing that you do today, it should be to fill out the registration form so we know you are interested in auditioning! Once you've done that, take a look below to see what your audition process will look like in August.
Brass & Woodwind Auditions
The Winds section of the Cyclone Marching Band is made up of more than 200 brass and woodwind players. The audition itself is split 50/50 between musical skill and marching technique. The music audition consists of an Audition Etude, which does not need to be memorized, as well as the Iowa State Fight Song, which does need to be memorized. The marching portion of the audition will be taught to you during the first full day of camp which focuses on teaching you a marching sequence using our style and commands.
Drumline Auditions
Known by many names, "The Purveyors of Percussive Persuasion," "The Wizards of Wham-Bam-Boom," and even "The Rubicons of Rhythm," the Iowa State Drumline is an elite group made up of about 30 students on snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, and cymbals. The drumline offers summer experience camps for those interested in auditioning for the group, free of charge, and has a slightly different audition process than the wind players in the band.
Color Guard Auditions
Just like the Drumline, the Iowa State Color Guard has a slightly different audition process than our wind players. There will be summer experience camps that cover the fundamental techniques that the guard will employ throughout the season, such as flag work, movement, and rifle work.
Twirler Auditions
The ISUCF’V’MB feature twirlers performs at all home pregame and halftime performances and travel with the band to selected away games. In addition, the feature twirlers will accompany the Cyclone Marching Band at Pep rallies and other public appearances. The feature twirlers must excel in creative and interpretive high-quality performance and be able to work independently to design their own routines for each show.
